We have now taken delivery of 5 GPS units and 2 camp fridges.  Our new tent has been ordered and we should have that shortly.

All this has only been possible thanks to you, the public/parents who voted for our cause at the Durham Area Action Partnership, It's up to you day in November 2014.

This gets the Cubs Year of Adventure off to a good start!

All sections from Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be taking part in various levels of Geo caching and the aim for the Scouts is to complete their Geocaching badge.

Scouts will be setting up Caches for the County Cub Adventure day at Moor House which will be able to be used by all members of Durham Scout County.

Our Scouts and older Cubs will be making great use of all our new equipment as we spend a weeks camp in Carlisle in May.

Beavers and Cubs will also have a 1 night camp after their Adventure day at Moor House.

Outdoor Scouting 1st March and Climb When Ready Competition 2nd March

posted 4 Mar 2014, 05:06 by Sarah and Mike Dodds   [ updated 6 Mar 2014, 08:48 ]

OUTDOOR SCOUTING

11 of our Scouts took part in this excellent District walking competition run and organised by DUSAG.  They went out as two teams and set off on their routes from 19th Durham's Scout Hut at Nevilles Cross navigating a given route in opposite directions.  On the way round they had challenge bases to complete, which tested their team work skills.

Fortunately the weather stayed kind and dry, with only a slight shower and they both completed the circute and got back to the hut on time.  They were up against other Scout Groups from within the District and overall they did really well - All that recent navigation practice has obviously paid off.

The circular route took in Nevilles Cross, Bearpark and Broompark and the Deerness and Lanchester bridle paths.

The two teams even met each other half way round their routes and were full of high spirits.

Well done and once the results are out we will let you know.

CLIMB WHEN READY COMPETITION

We had 2 Cubs and 4 Scouts taking part in this excellent County competition held at Simonside Climbing Centre in South Shields, on Sunday.

Each of then did a lot of climbing and did really well and can be proud of what they achieved.

Overall there were 90 cubs at the morning session and as many again for the Scout session on the afternoon.  To say it was a busy day would be a bit of an understatement and we reckon the Scout volunteers who were belaying would have definately slept that night when they got home, as they were still in full swing later in the evening, dealing with Explorers and then Network.

The District did really well over all and all results can be found on the Climb When Ready Website.

Most of our Cubs and Scouts enjoyed an excellent day on Saturday doing archery at 1st Framwellgate Moor Scout Hut.  A MASSIVE THANKYOU to the Leaders who ran the day for us, it is really appreciated.

Prizes were given to those who scored the highest and also to the best improved Cub or Scout throughout the day.

Well done one and all for taking part and WATCH OUT ROBIN HOOD AND WILLIAM TELL!!!

Excellent Panto Trip AND a Successful Table Top Sale for the Group - what a weekend!!!!

posted 9 Dec 2013, 06:13 by Sarah and Mike Dodds

Did our Beavers and Cubs have an excellent afternoon at the Panto on Saturday ? - "OH YES THEY DID..!!!!"  - and so did a lot of the grown ups too, from what we could see and hear.

Our Group was part of a 200+ contingent from Durham City Distict, to what has become a popular seasonal event for the Scouting Calendar.

This was then followed by a successful Table Top Sale on the Sunday afternoon where we had lots going on, from Tombola, Guess the Number of Sweets in the Jar, to Guess the Weight of the Cake.  Many thanks to all our helpers and fundraisers, who helped set up and tidy up afterwards, it is really appreciated and the final amount raised will be announced at our next Group Meeting.
