Congratulations to Connor, Heather and Megan.  After a weekend at Wooler with other Scouts from Durham City District they have all gained their Navigators badge.

Testimonial from parent helper

I would just like to say what a brilliant weekend Megan and I had at the Scout Walking weekend in Wooler. The Youth Hostel was comfortable and warm with clean and facilities.   We had amazing weather on the Saturday with superb views over the cheviot hills and beyond.  As a parent helper I joined in with most of the activities, including orienteering, walking and map bingo!  I updated my rusty compass skills and learnt how to take a triangulation point bearing as well as write a route plan card. Whilst out and about we had the opportunity to practice our new skills and were refuelled with ample cake, hot chocolate, tea and coffee.

The whole weekend was incredibly well organised; spare equipment for anyone who hadn't got theirs, photocopied maps provided with pencils (and even pencil sharpeners were thought of), refreshments were provided and safeguarding policies strictly observed throughout.  I was particularly impressed with the experience and knowledge of all the leaders volunteering to give up their weekend to pass on their mountain leadership skills. I also noticed the huge respect the leaders had for the scouts and vice versa.

Even though some of the scouts did not know each other before the weekend they soon felt relaxed enough to chill out with their peers and have fun with their new found friends and leaders. All scouts demonstrated excellent behaviour throughout the weekend and I would like to thank you and the scout organisation for an uplifting experience.

Thank you,

Kath
